Currently: Dec 2017

December is going really great so far, alhamdhulillah. I've managed to get quite a lot done and I'm having a great time so far. This year has been extremely good. Entertainment wise, I'm not doing so great but oh well, when you're busy, you hardly have time for things ahaha. Here are some things I've been enjoying recently.

Young Sheldon | I am a huge fan of Sheldon Cooper so when this series was talked about, I knew I had to watch it and it did not disappoint at all. The young actors are especially good and it's such a cute little series.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi | I'm not a fan of SW but the boy is and it gives me more of an excuse to indulge in the things he loves and maybe I am liking it a bit. I did enjoy this movie, but perhaps I enjoyed Rogue One more.

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon | Let me just say K-dramas are life. Ever since my friend Sharoona introduced me to K-series by giving me full house, I've fallen in love and this one is really cute (aren't they all?) but it is also a bit of thriller which I love and I'm very excited to continue the rest of the series.

The Sleepwalker's Guide to Dancing by Mira Jacob | I picked this book because of the title and it is so far pretty nice, I do love stories set in 60's for NRIs and it has that Indian charm to it. I haven't really been able t get fully into it because of my busy schedule but I am loving the writing.

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card | This book is quite popular and I enjoyed it for the most part but there were some problematic things with the book. I do want to see the movie to see how it's all tied in.

Reputation by Taylor Swift | Since the homegirl delivered this in Nov, I haven't been listening to anything else much. I really love it so much. I have to do a whole blog post about my favourite songs in the album (there are so many!)

What's keeping you entertained this month?

2010 me vs 2017 me

I was going through my old blog archives and saw this survey thing I did (i used to do a segment called suvey saturday, ahaha) and I realized in so many ways I am still the same person I was back then, but a few things have changed, so let's see.

If I were a month, I'd be February. (still the same, I will always remember my Februaries)

If I were a day of the week, I'd be Monday. (Mondays are my favourite, it always feels like my day)

If I were a time of day, I'd be 6am. 3PM, (somehow this is the time where I feel the best now)
If I were a planet, I would be Pluto. (no longer a planet of our solar system, but still me)
If I were a sea animal, I'd be a Sea Horse starfish (I really love starfish now ahaha)
If I were a direction, I'd be East. (east is where home is)
If I were a liquid, I'd be Coca Cola gahuva (sweet when I need to be, bitter always, haha)
If I were a gemstone, I would be a ruby amethyst (it's also my birth stone)
If I were a tree, I would be an Oak Tree lemon tree (it smells so good and produces lemon!)
If I were a tool, I'd be a pen. (the pen is mightier than sword for a reason)
If I were a flower, I'd be a sunflower. (they spread so much cheer!)
If I were a kind of weather, I'd be rain sunshine (I'm more of a sunshine girl now)
If I were a musical instrument, I'd be a piano. (yes, I like to be extravagant haha)
If I were an emotion, I'd be excited happy (age made me realize subtle happiness is what I need)
If I were a fruit, I'd be an apple. (hahaha apples are great, I love them)
If I was a sound, I'd be the sound of laughing children rain on the rooftop (somehow slow rain on the rooftop makes me feel all the feelings)
If I were an element, I would be water. (I like to think I'm more proactive and calm, like water)
If I were a car, I'd be a Mercedes Beetle (cute and vintage)
If I were a food, I'd be a cupcake ramen (I have a newfound love for ramen)
If I were a place, I would be a garden. (gardens will always make me feel at home)
If I were a taste, I'd be sour a bit bitter (like tea without sweetener)
If I were a scent, I'd be lavender vanilla (I've grown to really LOVE vanilla, so much that I love perfumes that have vanilla in them)
If I were an object, I'd be a book. (forever a book)
If I were a body part, I'd be the eyes. (they are the soul indeed)
If I were a facial expression, I'd be confused. (hahaha, still the confused cookie I am)
If I were a song, I would be Crush Affirmation by Savage Garden (this is everything I believe in)
If I were a pair of shoes, I would be a Louboutin ballet flat shoes (comfortable but cute, I've grown to not care too much about brands despite what I do for a living)

If I were a piece of furniture, I'd be a shelf (to keep all your favourite books and thing in)
If I were a color, I'd be yellow. (forever the color of bright cheer and sunshine)
If I were a material, I'd be silk. (perhaps I'm still a bit of silk)

It's funny how you're SO different from who you were years ago but your essence is still somehow the same.

Fashion Week Mishaps

As you probably know, I am obsessed with fashion and style and religiously check fashion shows and keep tabs on my favourite designers (Elie Saab, Zuhair Murad, and Kate Spade!) but fashion can sometimes also be kind of weird, crazy and downright obnoxious so the last couple years I've been tweeting some of the "mishaps" I find and it's been fun. Here are some of my favourite ones.

A lot of people enjoyed reading these which is always fun, getting people interested in the worls of fashion is pretty exciting.

I am also doing a couple of Fashion Week Mishaps blog posts over on Famushu, whose style I adore, so check it out. In the meanwhile, embrace the mishaps!

Summer Island Day Trip

A couple months ago, I won a free trip to Summer Island for two (courtesy of Cancer Society of Maldives gala event) and I managed to convince my sisters to join me. Last weekend, we made the trip, it was the first resort experience for both my sisters and I was so anxious because for one whole day, I would be the adult ahaha.

We arrived on morning and made our way to our room without much complaints. Mick was especially excited and kept taking pictures of everything, haha.

The moment we came to the room, she had to photograph everything and she was so happy about everything, it was pure bliss seeing her being all excited. What a precious little person. Here are some pics she took.

This was my favourite spot, I had a cup of coffee in the morning here while playing Reputation on repeat, it was pure bliss.

This was Mick's favourite spot, she loved lying here and chilling.

She took over my snap and did a room tour too, it was so cute.

She was probably very excited about the bath robe, ahaha.

We had a nice lunch and then went to moodhu right afterwards, ofcourse. We were all excited for it. The moodhu was perfect for Mick, it wasn't too deep and we had the whole place to ourselves.

Mick's favourite part was the watermelon, this girl can eat a whole watermelon by herself.

She loved the swings all around the island, but it lasted only five minutes before someone saw a caterpillar and got scared.

My favourite was lying around with nothing to do, I hardly ever have time to do that, so it was just perfect.  Then we had evening tea and went around the island a bit to see it.

There was a library so obviously we had to check it out, but it mostly had adult novels, magazines and books in other languages so Mick didn't enjoy it.

We had tea while watching the sun set and it was just spectacular.

We had a nice night (apart from some fighting over what to watch on the TV) and had a rather good night's sleep and then it was time for breakfast, some more resting and leaving to come back.

Ofcourse we had to bring our doll friend Elle with us because she's part of the family too.

Overall, it was a nice weekend and I'm glad the sisters and I got to have some just to ourselves. I'm looking forward to more family trips, hopefully with the parents around as well.

Hope you all had a great weekend too!

August 2017 in a nutshell

August has been a whirlwind of a month but I did manage to do quite a lot of fun and exciting things. It started with a day trip to Maafushi for a friend's wedding, which was beautiful.
The reception was perfect, it was during sunset and everything looked magical. Congrats Afa and Shumrooj!
Dad brought us ice cream cones so my sisters and I had ice cream for tea everyday which was super fun. I still haven't perfected the scooping process so mine always comes all wobbly, sigh.
and ofcourse, I met up with my bestie over a cup of gahuva when he was in town. He's hardly in town so it's always great to catch up!
My show at IceTV was on and I had a blast watching it with my friends. It's still surreal to think I have a TV show where I talk about books, it's crazy.
My friends were invited to stay at Starshell hotel one weekend and it was so much fun. We had a great time there.
look at all the happy faces! we had the whole hotel to ourselves and it was the best. We played gandufilla and celebrated Oppo's birthday. We went to moodhu and generally had such a great time!
Here is the delicious Twitsal cake that my mom made (go follow her cake page on insta!)
Lilal made duck for us and it was glorious.
August also meant that it was 100 days to the brutal murder of our friend @yaamyn who we miss everyday. His friends set this book run to celebrate his life, and it was so touching. He would have loved it. Go follow #WeAreYaamyn for updates on the case.
There was more filming for more episodes of the show which is always fun. Looking forward to more episodes. Check out episode 1 here.
I got the sweetest bouquet from flowers from Airbnb, which was wonderful after the trouble I had with them.
My favourite days were cozy reading days. I actually finished reading The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo which was so intense and I loved it.
A big shoutout to my mommmy dearest who complete a sugar flower course and basically impressed me every time with her clever and beautiful intricate creations like this cake she made in under 3 hours!
There were so many great food days, which is always a favourite. I've slowly come to appreciate food.
and then, Tay dropped her new single and I fell in love with her music all over again. I am so ready for this new era of Taylor Swift.
At the end of August, as per our yearly tradition, my friends and I headed to an island for Eid, this time to Ihavandhoo. We stopped by at Kulhudhuffushi and looked around the island before we headed to properly Eid.
Overall, August was a great month filled with lots of adventure and great memories. I cannot wait for what's in store for me this month, hope y'all had a great August as well.
